Classical Guitarist Yang Xuefei

Many still consider China the "sleeping giant". This may be an especially appropriate phrase when it comes to Western music. But a group of brave musical pioneers have begun to emerge from the mainland. 27-year-old Yang Xuefei has three pioneering firsts to her credit: She was the first Chinese guitarist to enter a music school; the first guitarist from China to study in the UK; and, according to a recent article in the Singapore Business Times, the first guitarist from China to receive an international scholarship from the Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music for post-graduate study.
