Marc Ecko's Getting Up Block Party 2005  (September 15, 2005)

Below are pictures of a large scale operation that took place this summer. Marc Ecko, ECKO clothing owner, commssioned 20 Graff Artists to paint on train sides that were made in California, and were trucked into NY for a large block party, on August 24th. The whole event was called: Marc Ecko's Getting Up Block Party 2005. I was one of the artist chosen to participate.

But not all went smoothly. The City of NY rescinded the permit for the block party because of the politics involving Graffiti demonstrations, and of course because we were painting on surfaces that looked like subway trains.

It was all bizarre. We actually went to court, Federal Court of all things, and we won because the city tried to undermine our 1st Ammendment rights of freedom of speech.

It was a wild affair, with news articles, tv interviews and more...

It was fun...

peace
